Despite the success of the Barbie film, which has become the highest grossing movie of the year, the popular dolls are not in the top three predicted big-sellers this year
Toy sellers have predicted what will be at the top this year’s kids’ Christmas lists and, surprisingly, it won’t be Barbie.
Lego sets will be the most asked for gifts from Santa this year, according to independent toy shop owners. Marvel and Star Wars appear to be in the biggest demand so far this year despite the success of the Barbie film starring Margot Robbie, which has become the highest grossing film of the year, taking £67.5m at the box office.
Paul Carpenter, 70, owner of Totally Toys in Bristol, said: “Lego will feature really highly and we sell a lot of it. I think Star Wars, Marvel and Ninjago Lego sets will do well.” Paul added that while he believes Barbie sales will increase in the coming months off the back of the hit film, it still won’t unseat Lego.
He said: “Barbie has got people out in the cinema again, which is great. I haven’t seen a big upsurge in Barbie sales at the moment but it will be a good Barbie year. I think the dolls will start selling better in a couple of months.”
