"Recently, the agent carried out numerous activities and actions in slandering the Islamic Republic, inviting youth to riot and creating terror among the people," Fars said with respect to the arrest. Iranian media identified the arrested individual as Elham Afkari. Her brother, Saeed Afkari, confirmed her arrest on Thursday, adding that the whereabouts of her three-year-old daughter were unknown. According to the semi-official Student News Network broadcaster, her other brother is Navid Afkari - a 27-year-old Greco-Roman wrestler executed in Sept 2020 after being convicted of stabbing a security guard to death during anti-government protests in 2018. Afkari's family and activists have said Navid was tortured into making a false confession - accusations that were denied by the hardline Iranian judiciary. Iran International did not immediately respond to a request for comment. On Tuesday Esmail Khatib, Iran's intelligence minister, called the London-based channel a "terrorist" organisation and said that anyone working for or affiliated with it will be pursued by the Ministry of Intelligence. Taraneh Alidoosti pledges to ‘pay any price to stand up for my rights’ as demonstrations continue to rock the Islamic republic
Leading Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti has posted a picture of herself without the mandatory headscarf and holding a sign in support of protests that have shaken the Islamic republic for over 50 days.
Alidoosti, one of the best-known film stars living in Iran, posted the image of her holding a slogan of the protest movement “Woman. Life. Freedom” to her Instagram account, where she has nearly eight million followers.
The 38-year-old is a regular in movies by Asghar Farhadi, the award-winning director – including The Salesman, which took the Oscar for best foreign language film in 2017.
Recently, she vowed to remain in her homeland at “any price”, saying she did not have a foreign passport or residence.
