He sustained an injury to his hand after being flung from the cart - and had hoped it would heal without intervention. However, co-star Paddy, 49, has since revealed that Chris will require an "operation" in order to fix the damage to his "banged up" hand. Paddy told The Mirror: "He's still banged up. His hand is still not right. 'When he holds up his hand, I'm not sure if it's his finger or thumb, but one of them points the other way. He will have to have an operation.' Chris will be seen being flung from his go-kart on Sunday night's episode of the new series - rolling down a hill at high speeds. The star tells BBC One fans: "This is as grass roots as motorsport gets. Steering is by foot, the only fuel is gravity and the machines themselves are, let's say, sustainably sourced." Paddy insisted that they were going at a "fair speed" before Chris hit the ground, and thought he "got off lightly" with a hand injury. It comes after it was revealed that Freddie Flintoff was forced to miss most of Top Gear Thailand special after contracting coronavirus. The ex-England cricketer was expecting to go full throttle in a series of smart motors as part of a four-day jaunt in Thailand. He was struck down after 24 hours of filming and fans will see him on screen for just a fraction of the episode.
