Love Island star Fury will be given a new opponent on the undercard of Mayweather vs Deji after missing weight by 7lb for his now-cancelled fight against Paul Bamba
Tommy Fury will remain on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs Deji after being given a new opponent having missed weight for his fight with Paul Bamba.
Love Island star Fury, the brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson, was set to make his ring return tonight in Dubai against the relatively unknown Bamba, who has a record of 5-2. The fight was seemingly contracted at light-heavyweight and Bamba successfully weighed in at 174.6lb, but Fury missed the mark by almost 7lb as he stepped on the scale at 181.4lb and the fight was subsequently cancelled.
There was confusion over the contracted weight as Fury insisted he made the weight he was supposed to, but Bamba was adamant his contract said the fight was at 175lb. Bamba expected Fury to come in a pound or two overweight, but refused to fight when he realised it was considerably more than that. Fury has now been given a new opponent, who is yet to be announced, and the Brit has insisted he never missed weight in the first place.
