After receiving poor reviews, The Crowded Room was eventually praised over a moment when Holland's character Danny reflects on past moments while being interrogated over his involvement in a 1979 New York City shooting. At one point, Danny goes to a club and meets a guy before they head to a toilet cubicle and have sex. While the moment set social media alight with praise, it also encouraged bigots to plague Twitter with homophobic remarks. For every grim comment, however, there was others leaping to the Marvel star's defence.
