Never-heard-before audio from Tom Brady’s first-ever conference call after joining the New England Patriots has been released, showing off the 2000 six-round pick’s winning mentality
Tom Brady was famously taken as the 199th overall pick of the 2000 NFL Draft, as Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots took a punt on the unlikely Michigan quarterback.
Little did everyone know, though, that Brady would go on to become the greatest player in the league’s history, a three-time MVP, and a seven-time Super Bowl winner. And ahead of the 2023 NFL season, which will see Brady honoured by the Patriots on Sept. 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles, a never-heard-before conference call following his arrival in New England has been released.
Reporters quizzed Brady on topics such as his role in the team as well as his measurements. Brady came across as humble, bigging up starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe as a reference point for learning.
“All I was looking for was a place to get my foot in the door and try to be great for the team that picked me,” Brady said. “And, you know, Drew Bledsoe is certainly one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and it’s gonna be great to learn under him and compete for a job with the Patriots.”
