Aspinall broke his leg at The O2 arena in his last fight but he returned to the same venue almost one year on to KO Marcin Tybura in the main event of UFC London
Tom Aspinall exorcised the demons of his horror knee injury to knock out Marcin Tybura in just over a minute at UFC London.
Aspinall’s fight against Tybura marked a return to the same venue where he broke his leg almost a year ago to the date. The Brit took on Curtis Blaydes at The O2 arena last July, but the fight ended in disaster as Aspinall blew his knee out just 15 seconds into the opening round.
The Brit had fans on the edge of their seats as he opened up against Tybura with a powerful head kick. Chants of “Tommy Aspinall” echoed around The O2 arena and Aspinall responded to the crowd just moments later by landing a big elbow that put Tybura on the retreat. He then followed up with a right hand that floored Tybura and referee Marc Goddard stopped the fight after some follow-up ground and pound.
“It’s been a really tough year for me,” Aspinall said after the fight. “I wasn’t myself last year and this is a whole new version of me. I’m not going to say that I’m back because this is a different version of me. That seemed like an easy fight but Marcin is a really tough guy, let’s give him a cheer guys because that guy is a really tough human being.”
