Titanic submarine boss created a ‘mousetrap for billionaires’, says ex-passenger

Karl Stanley, who was among the first to dive in the Titan submersible, said OceanGate’s CEO Stockton Rush seemingly knew of the tragic outcome and designed a plan targeting billionaires

A submarine expert who once sailed on board the doomed Titan submersible before its deadly implosion has described the vessel as a “mousetrap for billionaires”.

Karl Stanley, a Honduran tourist submarine operator, had the chance to dive with the Titan back in 2019 for a test dive in the Bahamas.

Ever since he said he knew that the construction of the submersible was inefficient.

Tragedy unfolded last month when the Titan – captained by OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush – imploded in the Atlantic Ocean while trying to reach the wreck of the Titanic, killing all five on board. The company has since been the target of severe criticism for ignoring safety warnings.
