Since suffering life-changing injuries in a car crash back in 2021, Woods has only been competing on the PGA Tour on a part-time basis. He featured at the Masters earlier this year but withdrew before the start of his fourth and final round despite making the cut. Despite not being at this year's Ryder Cup, Team USA captain Zach Johnson has previously stated his desire to use Woods' vast experience to their advantage and lean on his expertise during the week even if he can't be in attendance. "Tiger is very much a part of Team USA and has been for years," Johnson told AP on September 9 . "He is, for lack of a better term, on call with us. He is very much in the know as to what we're trying to do. "We're going to utilise his wisdom and he's passionate about the Ryder Cup. He wishes he could be here, but it's just not on the cards for him physically. And that's fine. I mean, he is with us. He's just not here physically."
