Tiger Woods will not be involved at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy this week but Team USA captain Zach Johnson has previously outlined his intention to use the golf legend’s years of experience
The 2023 Ryder Cup will not have the presence the iconic Tiger Woods taking part for Team USA, but he is still set to have a role to play.
The 15-time major champion has played at eight previous Ryder Cups, most recently in 2018 in Paris, which Team Europe won. He has not played on American soil in the tournament since 2012 in the famous “Miracle of Mediah”, also won by Europe.
In total, Woods has won 14.5 points for Team USA across his appearances., but has only managed to be part of the winning team on one occasion which came back in 1999 at Brookline. However, this year’s tournament will not see the golf legend on the tee or the the team room as he continues his rehabilitation from surgery.
Since suffering life-changing injuries in a car crash back in 2021, Woods has only been competing on the PGA Tour on a part-time basis. He featured at the Masters earlier this year but withdrew before the start of his fourth and final round despite making the cut.
