 Three teenage girls have been killed in a crash just hours after receiving their school exam results in Ireland. The youngsters all died alongside the driver of the car involved, a man aged in his early 20s, in Co Tipperary on Friday evening. It's understood the group had been on their way to celebrate the results of their Leaving Certificate exams – the final tests in the Irish secondary school system. Local police in Clonmel confirmed all four suffered fatal injuries in the collision in Clonmel and died at the scene. A Garda spokesperson said Mountain Road in Clonmel was closed overnight and will remain shut into Saturday while the scene is examined by forensic investigators. Images from the scene show a closure in place near the entrance of Hillview Sports Club. The force said: 'An incident room has been established at Clonmel Garda Station and a senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation. Simon Harris, the minister for further and higher education, described the incident as 'devastating news'. He said on X, previously known as Twitter: 'Leaving Cert results day represents achievement, celebration & excitement. Tonight that has been replaced by grief, shock and sadness. 'Thinking of the families, friends & school community of the 4 young people. There are no words. Heartbreaking.' Mattie McGrath, an independent politician for Tipperary, said there is huge shock and disbelief in Clonmel town. 'There is disbelief and numbness,' he said. 'The families involved are all local, from Clonmel and the surrounding area. It is utterly devastating. Our prayers are with the families and the whole community.'
