Three savvy tips on how to grow new tasty food from veg scraps

VEG peel and cut ends go in the bin in most households but they can be used to grow more tasty food.

Here’s how to get a second bite from the cut-offs that you usually chuck . . . 

ONIONS: These are some of the easiest to grow from scraps. Spring onions will bounce back from the ends that are usually chopped off and thrown away.

Just leave a few centimetres of stalk coming out the top of the roots, pop them in water and you’ll soon have a fresh crop. You can also regrow yellow and red onions from scraps.

Cut off the root end, with an inch of onion. Put it root-side down in a shallow dish of water or soil in a sunny spot.
