Plymouth Council has launched a new discretionary scheme as part of its Household Support Fund – this Government scheme provides each local council with a pot of cash to spend on help for vulnerable residents in their area
Thousands of households will be receiving a discount on their council tax as part of one local council’s cost of living support package.
Plymouth Council has launched a new discretionary scheme as part of the Household Support Fund. This Government scheme provides each local council with a pot of cash to spend on help for vulnerable residents in their area. The Government made another £842million in Household Support Fund money available for councils from April 1 this year.
This takes the total amount allocated to the fund to over £2billion since it first started in October 2021, with the scheme set to run until March 31, 2024. There are no set guidelines on what help can be offered and it is down to each individual council to decide what they want to do with the cash.
Residents in Plymouth who receive Council Tax Support (CTS) from the council will receive a one-off payment of £25 to go towards their council tax bill. Plymouth Council says around 8,000 residents will be receiving this cost of living help over the next few weeks.
