The village with a name so rude it nearly causes crashes when people see signs

Residents of a UK village known for its controversial name are facing an ongoing battle (Image: GSV) Residents of a UK village known for its controversial name are facing an ongoing battle against crude humour and vandalism .  The village of Cocks, in Cornwall, has become a source of constant jokes, innuendo, and graffiti, causing frustration among its residents. Recently, a group of young individuals reportedly attempted to steal a village sign by securing chains around it, further infuriating the locals.  This incident is just one of many instances where the village’s name has been exploited for humour at the expense of its residents. The situation reached a point where the local council considered a drastic measure to address the issue by renaming the village, Cox.  The village of Cocks, in Cornwall, has become a source of constant jokes (Image: GSV) However, this proposal faced significant backlash from the villagers themselves, leading authorities to abandon the idea. Now, some residents are refusing to replace one of the stolen village signs as the frequent theft of the sign has prompted them to take a stand against the ongoing ridicule. Unfortunately, the village’s name has also posed a potential danger for motorists on the A3075, as some drivers have reportedly had near misses while distracted by the humorous sign that still remains. However the town of Cocks is not the only British town with a rather bizarre name (Image: Getty) As the villagers of Cocks continue to grapple with the persistent ridicule and pranks, they hope for a solution that respects their community while putting an end to the tasteless jests that have plagued their village. Resident Dave Milton said that new signs used to be replaced only to be stolen again within days. He told the Sun: ‘A few years ago we were woken up by a loud banging at 3am and it was some lads trying to pull the sign out with a car. They put chains around it and yanked it out and it’s not been replaced since. I doubt they’ll put the sign back any time soon.’ Visitors have been surprised to discover the town of Three Cocks in Wales (Image: Getty) He continued: ‘Most of the signs are probably on somebody’s bedroom wall. People seem to want to lie in bed and stare at Cocks. But people in Cocks – I think we’re called Cockers – can see the funny side of it. We have a track that gets muddy when it rains which locals call Slippery Dicks.” However, another resident Julie Ward said that some locals want the sign back. She said: ‘There are funny, strange things about living here – if you have to give your address over the phone it always gives people a chuckle but I don’t know any different, I’m just happy living here. The people are lovely and when the weather’s beautiful there’s nowhere better.’ However the town of Cocks is not the only British town with a rather bizarre name as many have been surprised to find an English village named Brown Willy as well as Three Cocks in Wales and Twatt in Scotland.
