The Times Diary: The key is being able to laugh when you fail

The comedian Simon Evans starts a new tour tonight called Have We Met?, which plays on his fading memory at 58. Or at least he thinks that’s what it’s about. He certainly recalls his first appearance on telly.

In 1995, Evans went on The Krypton Factor, an ITV game show in which contestants tackle an assault course, observation and general knowledge rounds and try a flight simulator. “I was selling juggling balls and writing for top-shelf magazines and I think they were just glad not to have another accountant on,” he says, “though for some reason they didn’t mention the porn.”
