If you thought Nigel Farage’s former foot soldiers were a touch eccentric, you should see who was turned down. In a new book by Andrew Reid on how Ukip morphed into the Brexit Party, called The Art of the Impossible, he reveals some of the aspiring candidates who failed to get on the list. “One felt she was born on Sirius, eight light years away,” the former Ukip treasurer writes. “Another subscribed to the ‘lizard people’ theory about the royal family.” And he wonders if they were too sensitive over a regional organiser in Dorset who had been a popular dominatrix.
