The real reason NCIS fans don’t want to see Tony and Ziva return

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from NCIS.  NCIS season 21 may see Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David making their comebacks but the jury is out on whether or not it would be a good idea.  Fans shipped Agents Tony DiNozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) for years and were gutted they never got together onscreen before Ziva’s exit in season 11.  Her supposed death then led to Tony’s departure in season 13 – but when she made a shocking return at the end of season 16, Ziva reunited with Tony and their daughter Tali offscreen.  Ever since, there has been talk of them making a comeback together at some point in NCIS, with actor Michael Weatherly adding fuel to the fire in recent years.  On New Years’ Day, a fan begged the star on Twitter for Tony and Ziva to return to the show with him unexpectedly replying: ‘Stay tuned…for this might be an interesting year for such moments!’ NCIS: Why do fans not want to see Tony and Ziva return? (Image: CBS) He has also posted several tweets referring to the show and most recently re-enacted that iconic Gibbs/DiNozzo slap.  Despite the characters’ popularity during their time on NCIS though, there are many who actually don’t want to see Tony and Ziva return full-time again.  Many are instead hoping they will one day be seen in the CBS police procedural for a momentous occasion like the drama’s final ever episode, if it was to end.  Viewers have been taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on a potential ‘Tiva’ comeback. NCIS: Ziva David is played by actress Cote de Pablo. (Image: CBS) Starting off the Reddit thread, one fan wrote: ‘I know this probably won’t be popular but I don’t think Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo should come back to NCIS. ‘I’d like to see them come back for a quest shot, maybe even a whole thread. But to bring them back as cast members would be a step backwards.’ Another stated: ‘I completely agree I don’t want them back, let’s just be glad we had them.  ‘If they did come back what happens to Nick and Jess? Nick and Jess having the sibling relationships and that banter works well.’ While another added: ‘Unpopular opinion, but I don’t really want either of them back at NCIS. ‘Tony was on the show for 12 years. Every time they would come close to having the character grow and mature a bit, he would eventually revert back to his juvenile old ways.  ‘That got old, especially as he was getting older. Really loved Ziva’s character, but her return in S17 wasn’t the same.’ NCIS: Tony and Ziva got together off screen. (Image: CBS) So far, there has been no official confirmation that the pair are going to be back on NCIS.  But it will be a while until the drama returns either way thanks to the writers’ strikes that have been ongoing for the past month.  This means NCIS may not return until early 2024 or later if the strikes continue.  NCIS is available to watch on CBS.
