‘The National Trust must become more like Extinction Rebellion’

Roc Sandford, millionaire XR activist, says groups such as the RSPB are ‘sleepwalking into disaster’

The National Trust and Royal Society for the Protection of Birds need to be more like Extinction Rebellion, one of its leading activists has said.

Extinction Rebellion, or XR, is best known for its disruptive and civil disobedience tactics such as mass arrests used to raise the alarm about the climate crisis and trigger government action.

However, it has been mired in controversy in recent years with some of its protests having blocked ambulances, commuter trains and newspaper printing presses.

Now, one of its leading activists has come forward to criticise the National Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), for having “tremendous power with middle England, yet not knowing “which side their bread is buttered” as he accused the charities of “punching below their weight” and “sleepwalking into disaster”.
