The American rock group the Killers have apologised after inviting a Russian fan to drum with them at a concert in Georgia.
“We don’t know the etiquette of this land but this guy’s a Russian,” Brandon Flowers, the singer, said during a concert in Batumi, a resort city on the coast of the Black Sea. “You OK with a Russian coming up here?”
Boos rang out and some fans appear to have left the venue in protest. “He made a beautiful sign,” Flowers added as the fan headed for the stage.
They played the song For Reasons Unknown, for which the Killers often perform with a fan pulled from the crowd, and Flowers urged the audience to think of themselves as “brothers and sisters”.
