Season five of the high-profile Netflix drama depicts an impatient Prince Charles plotting against his mother
The Crown’s storyline about an impatient Prince of Wales plotting against his mother was inspired by actor Dominic West’s “powerful” performance, it has emerged.
Peter Morgan, the writer of the Netflix drama, said the way in which both West, who plays Prince Charles, and Imelda Staunton, who plays the late Queen, portrayed their characters shaped the tone of the fifth series.
Mr Morgan was speaking on The Crown’s official podcast, released on Wednesday, to mark the launch of the new season.
He said that Staunton had “a different energy” to Olivia Colman, who played the younger monarch in previous seasons, and was “more naturally vulnerable.”
