The Crown blasted for ‘exploitative’ portrayal of Diana as ‘an unstable woman’

THE fifth season of hit Netflix show The Crown has been slammed as “crass” for its portrayal of Princess Diana’s mental state.

While the explosive royal drama is some distance from Princess Diana’s tragic death, the show has already begun sowing the seeds of the heartbreaking accident.

In one scene during this recently-released season, Diana speeds through a set of red traffic lights after the breaks on her car seemingly fail. This causes the Princess to fear someone has cut her breaks.

One commentator has slammed this portrayal, with Digital Spy’s Laura Jane Turner saying: “Diana has become a caricature of an unstable woman, ruled by her emotions and in an increasingly hyperbolic state.

She added: “The Crown’s portrayal of Diana’s mental state has now become overblown and exploitative.”
