The beautiful little town known for being a foodie haven

A small market town full of restaurants has been dubbed Yorkshire’s food capital. Malton in the North Yorkshire moors is crammed with amazing independent restaurants, which constantly receive accolades and praise. The town has everything from bakeries, coffee shops and breweries to delis, bistros and gelaterias. It also has a monthly food market with local producers. The title of Yorkshire ‘s food capital was reportedly created by the late Antonio Carluccio, Italian chef and restauranteur. Others have sung its praises. Great British Bake Off star  Prue Leith called it her favourite foodie town and the Financial Times said it was the ‘food haven of the north’. But after fostering its can-do, independent spirit – it has emerged as a flagship for rural England.” Many of the businesses have received accolades. The New Malton restaurant is featured in the prestigious Michelin Guide, bakery Florian Poirot won at the World Pastry Cup and Brass Castle Brewery has won many CAMRA and SIBA awards. Other popular foodie spots include the Talbot Hotel, the New Derwent, Bluebird Bakery, Groovy Moo Gelato and Malton Fisheries. There is regency estate Scampston Hall, former prisoner of war camp Eden Camp Modern History Museum, Norman church St Mary’s Priory, 18th century estate Castle Howard and North York Moors National Park. It is near Norton and Swinton and accessible by train from Manchester, York and Leeds, by bus from Scarborough, Pickering and Helmsley, and by car via the A64 and the A169.
