Tesco shoppers loving 25p kitchen item that helps slash energy bills

Wilko shoppers are pictured outside a store (Image: Reach Plc)Shoppers are rushing to stores like Wilko, B&M and Tesco to buy a cheap kitchen item which is helping reduce energy bills because it saves on hot water.Fairy’s new washing-up liquid works with cooler temperatures and is flying off the shelves in stores where it is being sold for as little as 25p. There are two versions; a Christmas-scented liquid and a non-Christmas one. The latter is the cheaper at the moment, but both are used with just cold water. The product’s label reads: “New. Brilliant in cold. Save energy.”One supermarket shopper spotted the item on a shelf and shared photos on a Facebook group, Manchester Evening News says.”Fairy have brought out a new liquid that can be used in cool water to save people running the hot tap with the extreme energy prices …. I suppose every little helps,” the woman posted on Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group. This Fairy product has been branded ‘amazing’ (Image: Tesco)Another shopper posted: “This is a brilliant idea not just for money saving but what about if your boiler goes? You still need to wash up and it is cheaper than boiling the kettle twice just to rinse some dishes.”A third stated: “Wait what! My kids can now clean dishes because the water doesn’t have to be boiling! Amazing idea.”Another mum said: “It’s soap, it’ll work at any temperature.”A festive user said: “I have this. It smells awesome. I bought it for the pure fact it was a Christmas scent haha.”But some were repulsed by the idea of washing dishes in cold water.”Couldn’t think of anything worse than having my hands in a bowl of cold water right now,” one shopper stated. On washing dishes in cold water, Dr Nicky Milner, a biomedical scientist from Anglia Ruskin University, told the BBC: ‘It’s really about the scrubbing action. Research has shown that the temperature of the water doesn’t really make a difference. So a good scrub is more important than the water temperature.”Research has shown that using washing up liquid to kill bacteria is important.”
