Tesco announces change to yellow sticker items

Like many supermarkets, Tesco offers a reduced price on items of food that are close to their expiry date or in damaged packaging. Tesco used to display these products with yellow stickers showing a marked-down price, and in several corners of the shop floor, but the supermarket has announced a change to help its customers. With the cost of living crisis in full swing, millions of shoppers are hunting the reduced items for bargains, and Tesco is helping customers find the yellow sticker deals more easily. A new YouGov survey commissioned by Tesco reveals that 69 percent of shoppers now look out for mark downs in store and the thrifty trick is gaining appeal with 33 percent of customers seeking these reductions more frequently.  Tesco’s clever new hack will help customers save on their weekly shop no matter when they pop into store with a facelift for its ‘Reduced to Clear’ areas. The change will be rolled out to 100 stores by Christmas, and more stores again throughout 2023.READ MORE: Shoppers crash Tesco’s website trying to book Christmas order slots Tesco announces change to yellow sticker items with 100 stores affected before Christmas (Image: TESCO)The new signage lets customers know the items are ‘Reduced in price – just as nice’. Tesco hopes it will tempt the 29 percent of people who said they would shop reduced items more often if the section was made more visually appealing.Reduced to clear sections feature a wide range of products from fresh produce such as salads, meat, bread and sweet treats which are close to their expiry date. These items are perfect for that evening’s supper or for popping in the freezer for another day to end of season as well as discontinued grocery as well as non-food products.DON’T MISS…Effective method to dry clothes without using extra electricity [GUIDE]Melania Trump showed ‘signals of quietly being in charge’ with Donald [COMMENT]Houseplants that remove mould and condensation from your home [EXPERT] Tesco will roll out new signage into 100 stores before Christmas (Image: TESCO)The move also plays to Tesco’s plans to halve food waste in its own operations by 2025.  Tesco has already achieved a 45 percent reduction in food waste across its own operations since 2016/17 and just 0.35 percent of food it handled last year ended up as waste.   Tips for shopping reduced food items: Don’t be greedy – only buy what you need. Asda for example only allows one or two items with its Just Essentials branded to ensure everyone gets a chance to purchase the item – reduced or not. Be kind to the staff – some supermarkets have had to take drastic measures and corner off the reduced area for members of staff to be able to mark down the items without customers bustling through to grab a bargain.
