Ten Hag’s dream 22-man Man Utd squad with Greenwood decision and two signings

Erik ten Hag has consistently stressed his desire for competition in every position in his team ahead of his second season as Manchester United manager. Express Sport runs through the Dutchman’s dream 22-man squad beyond the summer transfer deadline. Goalkeepers: Onana, Heaton Ten Hag has somewhat of a new-look goalkeeper’s union at his disposal this term after David de Gea and Nathan Bishop’s exits. Andre Onana is United’s new first-choice stopper, with Tom Heaton likely acting as his No 2 ahead of Dean Henderson and Matej Kovar’s expected departures. Defenders: Wan-Bissaka, Dalot, Todibo, Varane, Martinez, Lindelof, Shaw, Malacia Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot will resume their battle for the right-back spot. The same goes for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, although the former’s starting status is far more cemented. West Ham United are pushing to sign Harry Maguire, currently £5m off United’s valuation, which could lead to the out-of-favour star’s exit. The Red Devils have reportedly identified OGC Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo as his replacement, and the Frenchman would challenge compatriot Raphael Varane for a starting berth. Alongside the right-sided centre-back, Lisandro Martinez will continue to be crucial for Ten Hag, and Victor Lindelof is a worthy cover option. West Ham want to sign Scott McTominay as well as Maguire, with Fred and Donny van de Beek also expected to leave in the coming weeks. It will open the door for Ten Hag to recruit another midfielder, with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat said to be waiting for an offer to arrive. Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes are set to start with Casemiro in United’s first-choice midfield. Kobbie Mainoo is primed for a breakthrough season once he recovers from injury, and Christian Eriksen adds quality in depth. Two exits would unlock the door for Sofyan Amrabat. (Image: Getty)
