 A teenager who strangled his girlfriend to death on their bed has been jailed for life with a minimum of 17 years. Liam Cain, 19, choked Courtney Boorne, 20, at least twice over the course of an hour on the afternoon of December 23 last year at their shared flat in Kirkby, Merseyside. Only moments earlier, Courtney had phoned her mum to tell her that 'if she didn't hear from her within an hour to call the police, because something was going on', a court heard. Around an hour after the call, a neighbour called 999 to report seeing a woman 'screaming and climbing onto the window ledge' of the couple's 14th-floor apartment. Gordon Cole KC, prosecuting, told jurors the witness 'said that the female appeared to be shouting at someone inside the flat. 'Courtney Boorne was heard to shout 'please'. She was crying and she was shouting, 'he has all the doors locked and he won't let me out'.' Another witness who called 999 saw a 'female shouting out of the window, screaming, shouting 'call the police, he's choking me', the prosecutor continued. The pair lived on the 14th floor of an apartment block in Kirkby (Picture: Liverpool Echo) Mr Cole added: '[Courtney] was described as screaming, and the window was then closed.' Police were said to have attended the scene 'very quickly' following the reports but found Courtney unconscious on the bed with marks all over her neck. The 20-year-old, who juggled jobs a a carer, hairdresser and housekeeper, was rushed to hospital but died later that day from a cardiac arrest induced by Cain's attack. Cain was found 'crouched down, leaning on an armchair in the living room' with 'scratch marks' on his head and face.
