Teen fed up with fly tipping transforms wasteland into community garden

Pride of Britain is around the corner, and we can’t wait to reveal our amazing winners on the big night on ITV as we count down to The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards with TSB

Inspirational teen Khan Odita has transformed a piece of wasteland near his home in Liverpool into a community garden.

The 16-year-old took on the ambitious plan after becoming frustrated by the impact fly tipping was having on his local area of Toxteth, with the ‘Urban Scape Community Garden’ opening in April.

As well as organising litter picking events, Khan secured funding to deliver community skip days for disposing of larger objects and engaged the community ahead of developing the space. Khan and a team of volunteers positioned planters made from repurposed wood up and down the street with his ‘Flood the Streets with Flowers’ project.
