The lock Brodie Retallick will be available for New Zealand’s match against England if he completes a tackling coaching course, having been suspended for two weeks for receiving a red card against Japan.
Retallick was dismissed after 65 minutes in Saturday’s Test in Tokyo, which New Zealand won 38-31, when he dangerously flew into a ruck with his shoulder.
A disciplinary panel handed him a mid-range six-week ban, because Retallick made contact with the head of the Japan flanker Kazuki Himeno, but cut that suspension in half after taking into account his clean record.
The panel will also allow him to shorten the ban by another week if he undertakes World Rugby’s coaching intervention programme (CIP) – rugby’s equivalent of the driving speed-awareness course,
