One of the big challenges for England’s bowlers – and batsmen – over the coming days at the T20 World Cup could be adjusting to the changed dimensions of the grounds they are playing at. By global standards, Australian cricket grounds are very large, but their shapes are not uniform: some have very long square boundaries but shorter straight ones, others have very long straight ones but shorter distances either side.
England’s match against Sri Lanka on Saturday is their first at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which has relatively short square boundaries, and if they qualify for the knockout stage they will almost certainly be playing a semi-final at the Adelaide Oval, which also has a field that is long and narrow.
