Sussexes ‘in too deep’ with media projects

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s media projects have been the subject of widespread speculation since the death of Queen Elizabeth II. While some reports have claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are rushing to make last-minute edits, others have suggested that the Royal Family should brace for bombshells. Harry and Meghan grieved the loss of the Firm’s late monarch and matriarch with the rest of the family, reuniting with senior members at various events throughout the 10-day national mourning period. For some, it indicated that the Sussexes and the UK-based royals were en route to repair their fractured relationship, and reports since have claimed the couple are making an effort to manage any upcoming bombshells.  However, royal expert Christopher Anderson has claimed Harry and Meghan are ‘in too deep,’ mentioning the Sussexes’ docuseries with Netflix and the Duke’s highly-anticipated memoir. The author, whose upcoming book ‘The King: The Life of Charles III’ will hit shelves next month, joined Christina Garibaldi to host this week’s episode of the Royally Us podcast  During their conversation, Ms Garibaldi asked: ‘Do you feel like Harry, after everything, wants to mend his relationship but now he’s sort of in too deep with this book?’Mr Anderson responded: ‘I do, because of the Netflix deal too, they’ve set up this new life for themselves as philanthropists and sort of communication moguls with the Spotify deal and the Netflix deal and so their hands are tied to some extent.’READ MORE: Meghan ‘had time to reflect’ on The Cut interview after ‘snarky’ comments The Sussexes’ long-suspected Netflix series was confirmed last week (Image: Getty Images) The cover and name of Harry’s book have been revealed (Image: Penguin Random House) Meghan spoke with Variety last week (Image: Ramona Rosales for Variety)The Sussexes have not given much away regarding the contents of their upcoming media projects. While Harry has promised his book will be a ‘firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful,’ Meghan has suggested the Netflix series may explore the couple’s ‘love story’. During her interview with The Cut in August, the Duchess said: ‘The piece of my life I haven’t been able to share, that people haven’t been able to see, is our love story,’ before quoting what she says was the end of a speech she gave at her wedding, in which she took comfort in the ‘resounding knowing that, above all, love wins.’The Duchess explained: ‘I hope that is the sentiment that people feel when they see any of the content or the projects that we are working on.’Now, Penguin Random House, which is publishing Harry’s book, has released a statement, echoing Meghan’s comments about emphasising the power of love in their projects.DON’T MISS:Harry ‘snubbed’ William’s offer of crisis talks ‘over leak fears’King Charles to host South Africa’s Ramaphosa in first state visitThousands of messages sent to King Charles III after Queen’s death Meghan and Harry want to tell their ‘love story’ (Image: Getty Images)A spokesperson said: “‘Spare’ takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow – and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling-and how their lives would play out from that point on.”For Harry, this is his story at last. With its raw, unflinching honesty, ‘Spare’ is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”Markus Dohle, Global CEO of Penguin Random House worldwide, added: ‘Penguin Random House is honoured to be publishing Prince Harry’s candid and emotionally powerful story for readers everywhere.”He shares a remarkably moving personal journey from trauma to healing, one that speaks to the power of love and will inspire and encourage millions of people around the world.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been together for four years (Image: Express.co.uk)The statement comes after reports claiming the Sussexes wish to make edits to their projects, including from royal expert Duncan Larcombe, who told The Sun: “Their request to make changes to a show that is paying them millions of dollars screams regret on their part, in my opinion.”I think Meghan and Harry are looking at the fuses they have lit and wondering how on earth they’ll be able to stop them going off.”In one respect, it’s an encouraging sign that, since the Queen’s funeral, it seems they’re trying to make a U-turn on what they’ve said and done. Maybe they have reflected on their actions and realised they’ve gone too far. I think the tragedy, however, is that the decision to make the changes is no longer in their hands.’ Since Meghan confirmed she and Harry were working on a documentary, some royal commentators have claimed the Sussexes are attempting to ‘get ahead’ of the potential backlash. Ms Fiorito claimed: ‘They [Meghan and Variety’s Matt Donnelly] talked about the docuseries. It’s interesting because I think that they [Meghan and Harry] actually are…getting ahead of it and saying: ‘This isn’t the way we would have told the story,’ like are they already a little nervous about the backlash to it.’ Similarly, Kinsey Schofield, host of the To Di For Daily podcast, opined in an interview with the Daily Star: ‘She has previously described the Netflix documentary as a ‘historical’ piece in The Cut.’She really doesn’t want it to be considered a reality show. But you do get the sense that Meghan Markle is distancing herself from the final product. The Duchess wanted to make sure that the audience knew that she did not have the final say and at the end of the day, someone else was in charge.’But Mr Anderson argued that the couple ‘want to tell the full and true story,’ despite the fact ‘it’s not necessarily a pretty one’.
