Strictly Come Dancing star reveals ‘lie’ producers told him before appearing on BBC show

Olympic athlete Greg Rutherford took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 and has confessed that there’s something many contestants don’t realise until they begin training

A former Strictly Come Dancing star has sensationally claimed that all contestants are told ‘a lie’ before taking part in the BBC dancing show.

Olympian Greg Rutherford, who took part in Strictly in 2016, has shared the insider secret as he revealed that most celebrities fear being in the dreaded bottom two but actually he described it as one of the best bits. Speaking ahead of the 2023 series which kicks off later this year and has announced this year’s contestants, athlete Greg had some sage advice for this year’s contestants as he stressed that they “have no idea what they’ve let themselves in for”.

He explained that while he enjoyed aspects like being in the dreaded dance off, he also warned contestants that they will spend more time in rehearsals than they realise, and will be shocked by how “intense” it is – stressing how the training regime proves how “difficult the show is”.

He told The Sun: “I remember when I went through the process of discussing it, it was said to me, ‘Oh you’ll only do a couple of hours a day, it won’t be too bad.’ But I ended up doing about 10 to 12 hours every single day. And I was still rubbish at it, so it shows how difficult the show is!”
