Microsoft has suddenly made Starfield an Xbox Play Anywhere game, which means you get both the PC and console versions at no extra cost.
You’ll know Starfield has done really well if Microsoft releases sales figures for it, which it never usually does for its games. As while the game will be free from day one on Game Pass, the majority of Xbox owners aren’t subscribers.
That means most will end up buying it as a traditional purchase, particularly those tempted to buy a collector’s edition that allows up to five days early access.
However, everyone will get an extra bonus, not previously hinted at: if you buy the Xbox or PC version you get the other one for free. Plus, cross-save functionality, so you can move your save between the two formats with any problem.
These features are part of the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative, the logo for which has appeared overnight on Starfield’s product page on the Xbox store.
