Spot so beautiful visitors suffer ‘withdrawal’ symptoms voted most popular

In the top spot is the Lake District (Image: Getty ) The Lake District tops the polls as the most popular attraction in Britain. A new study conducted by caravan insurance experts, InsureMy, analysed hashtags to establish which are the most popular and famous destinations across Britain according to Instagram . The Lake District has had over 4.9 million hashtags #lake district. This stunning Cumbrian spot which is also a UNESCO   World Heritage site and England’s largest National Park is a magnet for hikers and nature lovers. It really has the most stupendous scenery with views across the many lakes, verdant mountains, adorable towns, and beautiful hotels. In the Capital, the London Eye has had over 3.4 million hashtags #londoneye. It’s hardly surprising as those riding it can take in many of the capital’s most famous sites as they slowly turn; from Big Ben to the towering office blocks of Canary Wharf. Speaking of Big Ben, #bigben this much-loved clocktower which has just had a gleaming overhaul comes in at number three and it’s one destination firmly on a visitor’s list to tick off. Its hashtag #cotswolds has had over 2.4 million views. In central England, the beautiful Peak District comes in at number five with 2.1 million posts #peak district. It encompasses the lively city of Manchester and extends into Derbyshire and Cheshire. There are grand country estates and adorable towns and the Peak District National Park has everything; from walking trails galore to rock climbing and windsurfing to barren moors and spectacular caves and windswept hills. Wild Ponies roam free in the New Forest (Image: Getty ) The New Forest is famous for its wild ponies. This National Park includes ancient woodlands, wetlands, and heathlands. Cyclists love the destination as it has over 100 miles of off-road way-marked cycle routes. The hashtag #newforest has amassed 1.8 million posts. In seventh is Buckingham Palace #buckinghampalace with 1.8 million views. Many of the posts were dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth and there were many selfies taken in front of the famous ornate gates. Snowdonia’s incredible mountain peaks come in at number eight. #snowdonia features people posing after their feats of walking up one of the many mountains in the stunning National Park which encompasses 823 miles. It’s home to castles, walking routes, and even a live firing range across the moorland areas. Over a million posts with the hashtag #dartmoor have been loaded. Finally, the stunning Scottish island of Skye, #skye is the tenth most Instagrammable destination with a million posts. A popular location is the ‘fairy pools’; natural small waterfalls with aqua blue water and of course, Skye’s famous Cuillin Hills and Trotternish with unusual rock formations.
