Later Alya shared this theory in front of Toyah (Georgia Taylor), who'd come to offer her help cleaning up the paint. Toyah agreed with her, saying of Griff, 'That man is bad news.' She and Alya went to the Rovers to talk to David (Jack P Shepherd) about Griff's bad influence on Max, not realising that Griff and his gang were also there. This led to a nasty confrontation in which Griff showed his racist views, leading David and Shona (Julia Goulding) to become worried about what Max might be getting mixed up in. Later they tried to contact Max, but he was at Griff's house with Lauren (Cait Fitton). When Spider (Martin Hancock) was on his own with Max, he talked about some flyers that Max had designed for the gang, suggesting he could do something better with his talents. 'In life we have to find our own tribe,' Spider started to say, and seemed to be about to warn Max away from the gang. Before he could do so, Griff appeared.
