The US inventor says wearable device will target those at high risk of developing interval cancer between mammograms
A bra that can detect breast cancer is on the horizon after engineers designed a wearable ultrasound device.
The flexible patch which sits in the cups of a bra, can pick up tiny changes in tissue so that cancer could be picked up early when there is a far better chance of survival.
It was invented by Dr Canan Dagdeviren, an MIT materials scientist who drew the first plan at the bedside of her aunt Fatma Caliskanoglu, when she was dying from late-stage breast cancer, aged just 49, despite regular screenings.
Dr Dagdeviren hopes the device will allow for more frequent screening of women who are at high risk of developing breast cancer, such as those who had inherited the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, or people who have had cancer previously.
