 Oscar-winning actress Sophia Loren has said she is better following her hospitalisation after a fall and will 'take some time off' for rehabilitation therapy. The Italian-born Golden Age of Hollywood star, 89, had emergency surgery after sustaining several 'serious fractures' to different parts of her hip, including her femur, according to her agent. She fell in her bathroom at her Swiss home, Andrea Giusti told the PA news agency on Monday, as she confirmed Loren's sons, Carlo Jr and Edoardo Ponti, 55 and 50, were at her bedside. On Tuesday, a statement issued on behalf of Loren by her representative said: 'I thank everyone for the closeness and affection that they have been showing me. 'I'm better, I just need to do rehabilitation and (to) take some time off.' News of her accident was initially confirmed by the team at her self-titled restaurant chain, after the star was forced to abandon an appearance opening her business's fourth eatery in the Italian city of Bari scheduled for today (Tuesday). 'A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren hip fractures,' the statement on Sophia Loren Restaurant's official account read. 'Operated with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation. 'Thankfully everything worked out for the best and the Lady will be back with us very soon.' The message concluded: 'The whole team at Sophia Loren Restaurant takes this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery.'
