Soldier ‘shot dead newlywed wife before stuffing body in drain and helping mum search for her’

Zarrius and Saria Hildabrand met in basic training last summer, marrying six months later in December 2022 with Saria moving from Utah to Alaska earlier this year to be with her new husband

A US soldier accused of shooting dead his new wife before stashing her body in a storm drain near their Alaska home allegedly fooled everyone, including her mother.

21-year-old Zarrius Hildabrand has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence after allegedly killing his wife Saria Hildabrand, 21, in their Anchorage home. She was found to have died from a single bullet wound to her left temple.

Saria, an Alaska National Guard combat medic, vanished on August 7, sparking a manhunt. Her mum, Meredith Barney, had been set to travel to Anchorage to spend time with her daughter and new husband at the end of August to “get to know him better.”

He is now being held on $500,000 bond after investigators found a blood-soaked mattress in their home. Saria’s body was found in a four-by-five-foot storm drain down the road from their property.
