Soaps’ most jaw-dropping comebacks

Over the years a number of soap favourites have returned to our screens in dramatic comebacks on EastEnders, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Neighbours

It is a truth universally acknowledged that just because a character has been killed off in a soap opera, it doesn’t mean they are gone for good.

From Eastenders to Emmerdale, actors will come and go and then come and go once more, with some of our favourite stars leaving the show for years before bursting back onto the scene in truly dramatic fashion, be it a faked death, a witness protection scheme or some kind of hallucination.

There have been so many returns of stars over time, but we’ve picked out a few of the most jaw-dropping and unexpected comebacks on soaps. Here’s a look at our picks…

Dirty Den is an EastEnders legend and the original landlord of The Queen Vic pub in Albert Square. Having been a leading man on the soap from 1985 to 1989, his villainous character was supposedly killed off after being ambushed on his way to court and shot from behind a bunch of flowers by a member of The Firm, a criminal organisation he’d gotten involved with.
