A single injection of a new drug can lower blood pressure for six months, according to early trial results.
About one in four UK adults have high blood pressure and treatment requires them to take daily tablets.
However, zilebesiran, made by the US company Alnylam, is injected instead, and a UK trial involving 112 patients at four sites suggested it could help reduce blood pressure to a safe, healthy range.
Researchers gave 80 patients a single injection of zilebesiran under the skin and 32 received a dummy jab.
