Researchers found that sitting all day is linked to an increased risk of dementia, even in those who exercise – which could mean that we’ll see an increase in overall cases as most careers happen behind a desk
Scientists found a big link between sitting and dementia, says a study published in JAMA.
The risk of developing dementia is so much higher in adults who spend all day sitting that scientists were flabbergasted by the results. After looking at data on nearly 50,000 people and comparing their lifestyles and medical conditions, they found that those who sat for 10 hours a day were far more at risk of developing dementia within the next seven years.
Dementia rates were eight per cent higher in those who sat for more than if they sat for fewer. Sitting for 12 hours a day increases the risk by 63 per cent. On top of that, scientists learned that even those who worked out or just exercised regularly still had the exact same risks.
