Speaking in a video marking his company INEOS' 25th anniversary, Ratcliffe has admitted losing out on purchasing United would be "excruciating." He said: "You can't really contemplate acquiring a brand like Manchester United and failing because the failure is just far too public and too excruciating." Man United wouldn't be Ratcliffe's first football club, but rather his third. The billionaire Brit is already the owner of Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice and Swiss Super League team FC Lausanne-Sport. And he has said that his previous experience with the other clubs has helped him to approach this bid for United. "The Manchester United bid would have been unthinkable two or three years ago if we hadn't had some of the experiences, and quite a few of them difficult experiences with Lausanne and Nice" he explained. A potential deal could still collapse as reports have suggested that the Glazers are considering pulling the club from the shop window and waiting until 2025 to re-list it.
