Elleanor Lane bought a washing machine from Currys which flooded her house (Image: Submitted)A woman was left “crying and screaming” when her Currys washing machine allegedly flooded her kitchen with “dirty Covid water” and ruined electrical appliances.On October 8, Elleanor Lane purchased a new washing machine, and when it arrived on October 15, an engineer from Currys fitted it.However, the following day, the 29-year-old claims she returned home after doing a wash to find water all over the floor of her home.The NHS worker could not find any leak from the machine at first, but when she opened the cupboard next to the appliance, she found it was full of “dirty water”.Elleanor, from Netherton, Merseyside, told The Liverpool Echo: “We went out on the Sunday and when I came back the kitchen was flooded and water was everywhere.”I was just crying and screaming ‘there’s water, there’s water’.”When I opened the cupboard all my electrical appliances and pots and pans were covered in dirty covid water.”I say that because I’m a nurse, and in that wash was my uniforms that have been worn following covid contacts.”I was devastated because how am I supposed to use those now?”I don’t want my partner’s daughter to even be in the kitchen because I’m scared she could get covid.” Eleanor found ‘dirty Covid water’ in the cupboard next to the appliance (Image: Submitted)Elleanor says she contacted Currys straight away who she claims “were no help”.She claimed when she called the company on the phone, they told her it was an issue that could only be dealt with in-store.When she went back to the Aintree store in Merseyside she was then told by workers the only people who could help were head office.She said: “This is where the problems began really.”We had somebody come and have a look and they said when they removed the old machine they removed the extension pipe, which they shouldn’t have.”Three washes had just emptied into the cupboard, so I had to go to B&Q to get a stopper to stop the water from keep emptying in there.”They finally came out November 17 after a request from the store manager and the technician agreed a mistake was made.”He took pictures and head office then contacted me about damages. Currys offered Elleanor a £50 goodwill gesture for the damaged electronics (Image: Submitted)”I thought it was an absolute disgrace that they offered a £50 goodwill payment for all the electric goods that were damaged.”They’re now saying if I want to go further I need to pay for an electrician to asses all the items which will cost £90 and they won’t pay for that.”I can’t afford to be doing all of this, especially in a cost of living crisis.”The items that were in the cupboard that flooded include a slow cooker, toastie machine, blender, grill, mixer and a number of pans and woks.A Currys spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to hear that Ms Lane’s washing machine had a leak but we’re pleased that as soon as we were made aware of the issue, our repair team managed to go out and fix it straight away.”We have apologised to Ms Lane for the inconvenience caused and have offered her a gesture of goodwill for any damage.”
