In a throwback snap from 1999, Douglas Henshall looks worlds away from his Jimmy Perez character. The picture shows a younger Douglas 24 years ago with long, light brown curly hair. The Shetland star, who donned a beard, is wearing a sage green jumper on top of a baby blue shirt. The actor put his hand behind his head as he posed for the camera shot. At the time the photo was taken, Douglas would have been starring in Psychos, This Year’s Love and Kid in the Corner. The 57-year-old, who recently landed a role in a new Netflix series, is well-known for his character in Shetland. At the end of series seven, Douglas decided to hang up his Jimmy Perez coat for good. The show soon announced he would be replaced by actress Ashley Jensen in series eight. However, his character couldn’t be more different from Detective Perez as Douglas got to play villain Daniel Lang. When he landed the part, the actor admitted to having some concerns about his new project. He shared with Radio Times: “With my Scottish complexion, I was afraid I was just going to disappear into a puddle on the floor.” The actor confessed playing the baddie in a show is fun as he added: ‘It’s always fun to pretend to be firing a gun. It’s quite childhood-inducing.’ After creating a huge fanbase from Shetland, Douglas admitted because of his age there weren’t many roles for him anymore. “People are looking for younger actors these days,” he pointed out. ‘There’s a degree of, ‘I’ve been offered that, I’m grateful for the job, I’ll go and do it.'”
