Sheffield United and Tottenham react to racist abuse suffered by Wes Foderingham

Sheffield United have condemned the ‘racist, abusive and threatening’ messages sent to their goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, while Tottenham have promised to take ‘the strongest possible action’ against the culprits.

Spurs came from behind in injury time to beat Sheffield United 2-1 in north London on Saturday afternoon, but Foderingham revealed after the contest that he had been abused online.

The goalkeeper wrote on Instagram: ‘I don’t mind opposition fans calling me every name under the sun. But be easy with the racism and family threats. Think before you type.’

In a statement on Sunday, Foderingham’s club wrote: ‘Sheffield United condemn the racist, abusive and threatening messages that have been sent to Wes Foderingham after yesterday’s game against Spurs.
