The man was wading in waist-deep waters at the popular Sea Pines’ beach in Hilton Head Island when he felt a shark grabbing hold of his foot before being dragged from the water by Beach Service personnel
A popular family beach in South Carolina was forced to close after a 60-year-old man wading in waist-deep waters was attacked by a shark in a horrifying incident.
The man was paddling in the water at Sea Pines’ Beach in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, on Friday, July 21 when he says he was bitten by a shark. It happened at around 3.20pm, according to the Town of Hilton Head Island Government.
Shore Beach Service personnel took the man from the water and called Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue paramedics to respond. The man was taken to Hilton Head Hospital for treatment of the bite wound.
Officials closed a portion of the beach for the remainder of the day following the incident. On Saturday morning, July 22, Hilton Head director of public safety, Bob Bromage, said the man was 60 years old.
