22 years ago (2001) We showed the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers engulfed in flames in what was described as the deadliest attack in history. Nearly 3,000 people died when 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners and flew two of them into the towers in New York and a third into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Department of Defense in Washington DC. A fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back. 49 years ago (1974) Ethiopia’s Emperor Haile Selassie was deposed in a military coup. He reigned for 58 years, apart from five years spent in exile in England from 1936-1941 when the country was occupied by Italian fascist forces.
