And Sooty has been in very safe hands every since, with Richard working with the beloved bear for 25 years - marking his own milestone anniversary this month. "The fact that Sooty has survived with me, Harry Corbett and Matthew Corbett is just testament to the power of Sooty," says Richard. "The kids aren't bothered who is stood next to him as long as that person is soaked in water and gets a pie in the face. He is the star and I'm under no illusion about that!" Despite his humble protestations, during his tenure Richard and his team have led Sooty (and good pals Sweep and Soo) to astonishing new heights, including securing the Guinness World Record for the longest running kids TV show in the world and overseeing the launch of dedicated theme park Sooty Land, which opened its doors to families in 2022.
