School on ‘full lockdown’ after mystery situation outside academy gates

The Discovery Academy, in the Bentilee area of Stoke kept children inside this morning, in what it described to parents as a “full lockdown” due to an incident outside its gates

A school in Stoke was in lockdown this morning, with children kept inside and parents were being updated via text message.

The message was sent at 9.37am today from The Discovery Academy, in Bentilee and told parents an incident had occurred outside the school gates. Staffordshire Police were also called to the scene. The school message states: “The academy has been in a full lockdown situation due to an incident outside the academy gates. The situation is now resolved. Thank you.”

Just last week, schools in Leeds were lockdown after receiving a “threat” concerning the safety of pupils. Parents were then told in emails that schools in the area had received information from the council about threatened violence to children and staff. It is unclear what the threat was, but some schools entered a “soft invacuation”.
