 A school librarian left his 1-year-old daughter in a car for more than five hours on a hot summer day. Michael Dodes, 41, left his child in his SUV upon arriving at Walter J Damrosch School in the Bronx on Thursday, police told the New York Post. He had recently began working as a city school librarian at the campus on Jennings Street in the Morrisania neighborhood. A co-worker of Dodes saw his daughter in the Subaru Forester and smashed the rear passenger window to pull her out, police said. The girl was transported to BronxCare Health System. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Cops arrested Dodes around 2.45pm and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child. Where exactly Dodes' car was parked and the temperature in the car was not immediately known. The high in Morrisania on Thursday was 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Dodes appears to have worked as a librarian at various locations. He last was employed with the Queens Office of School Library Service as a library coordinator, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to that, he served as a library coordinator in north Brooklyn. It happened just a couple weeks after a Texas dad smashed the front window of his car to rescue his baby inside. The parents accidentally locked the keys of their car in their vehicle while their child was still inside. The temperature in Arlington was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit that day. Several people gathered around the car as he hit the window with what looked like a hammer. Later, another man brought a bigger pole and they made a hole that was big enough for a woman to climb through and carry out the baby. No one faced charges in the incident. There has been an uptick of hot car child deaths this year compared to last year, as much of the US has suffered record-breaking heat this summer.
