Jeremy Doku is learning. After the final whistle blew in Manchester City’s victory over West Ham United, and he caught up with Nayef Aguerd, whom he played alongside at Rennes in France, Doku needed directing over to the usual post-match routine where the City players approach their travelling fans.
Doku’s team-mates stood back and allowed the 21-year-old his own moment with the supporters, and the fans responded, perhaps only Erling Haaland and their manager, Pep Guardiola, receiving louder applause than the winger – and for good reason.
