England are in the World Cup final after a 3-1 win over Australia in Sydney – and Sarina Wiegman has now reached the final at back-to-back World Cups as well as winning the Euros twice

Sarina Wiegman has said England are still “getting better” after reaching their first Women’s World Cup final.

Wiegman is now just one game away from leading England to a historic European Championship-World Cup double, after the Lionesses produced a superb display to down co-hosts Australia 3-1 in Sydney. Goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo did the damage as England stormed to the final, where they meet Spain on Sunday.

The European Champions saved their best performance of the tournament for the crucial semi-final and controlled the majority of the contest. Sam Kerr did briefly threaten to end England’s run with a stunning equaliser, but only minutes later Hemp restored England’s lead.

Although she avoided a direct comparison to the Euros, after the game Wiegman talked about how the team has changed since lifting their first major trophy 12 months ago. She also feels they still have another gear to find.
